CAIRO, Dec 8 (PRIME) -- The Directorate-General of Maritime Affairs of Turkey accused E.U. insurers on Thursday of a refusal to provide insurance letters for ships with oil causing a tanker jam off Turkey's coast.
Turkey introduced an additional requirement of a Protection and Indemnity Insurance letter upon entrance of ships with crude to its straits from December 1. "Insurers refuse to issue such letters usually issued routinely," the authority said, adding that the requirement will not be lifted.
The Financial Times reported earlier, citing data of oil traders and tracking services that a tanker jam formed near the coasts of Turkey after a price restriction was put on Russian oil, and Turkey introduced an additional requirement for ship entry.
